Rob is a seasoned marketing communications professional having over 20 years of experience behind him. As consulting director of oneonone communications, he works with clients in both the private and public sector.
Rob’s earlier career was spent with Norwich Union where he worked in a number of marketing communications roles for both intermediary and consumer businesses. Rob has been working with RBS’s intermediary mortgage business for four years.

Paul Woodland - Area Manager, RBS Private Banking

Paul began his career in Financial Services 21 years ago as a Financial Adviser. During ten years with Britannic Assurance he gained AFPC qualification and moved on to become their Sales Manager. From there Paul spent 5 years developing his managerial talents at Pearl Assurance as T&C, District and then Branch Manager. Before moving to RBS as Regional Manager within their intermediary sales team, Paul also worked as Regional Manager for 3 years helping to set up and run Virgin Money’s Group Stakeholder Pension field team.

Now with RBS Private Banking as Area Manager responsible for Relationship Development Managers. Paul’s team specialises in providing bespoke lending solutions such as Bridging Finance, whilst offering the full range of Private Banking facilities to intermediaries.

Mike Willis, Business Development Manager, RBSIP

Mike joined RBS in 2003 as a Business Development Manager. Prior to this Mike worked for Virgin Money having joined them from launch in 1995 and performed various roles including regulated Financial Adviser, Sales Manager and Workplace Marketing Manager for Group Personal Pensions. Before Virgin Mike spent 8 years with Norwich Union in both Branch and Head Office based sales roles.

Mike has recently enjoyed the role of New Build Manager for RBSIP which has brought him into close contact with the Government Backed Shared Equity Schemes and the various critical relationships stemming from this, including - the Homes and Communities Agency, HomeBuy Agents, Developers and Brokers. Most recently, Mike has recently joined the Specialist Products in tandem with our key Intermediary Partners.

Diversification - spread your risk and increase revenue streams.

This workshop will explain some of the recent developments the RBS Group has taken to diversify its own product range and how they can bring this to the intermediary sector. They will look at what other areas are available to intermediaries from which they can earn an income and what developments are just about to be launched. This workshop will touch on the potential opportunities within your business and your client bank. It will give an overview of its upcoming pilots, what they plan to launch later this year and some other opportunities of which brokers may earn a fee from their clients.

Lawrence Della Valle

Lawrence Della Valle, Head of Specialist Products, RBS Intermediary Partners

Lawrence has recently been appointed as Head of Specialist Products at RBS Intermediary Partners. This role has him exploring the opportunities to diversify the groups mortgage and savings products and bring them to the intermediary market.

Lawrence has been with the RBS Group for 7 years. Before taking up his new role, Lawrence was Head of Sales for the One account, prior to this he worked on both RBS and NatWest Retail Boards delivering their staff training program. Before this he was a Senior National Account manager looking after numerous national networks.

Lawrence moved into financial services sector in 1989, following a short career commission in the Royal Navy. Fully qualified in mortgages and financial services he joined Bank of Scotland in 1995, working within the intermediary deposit team before joining their mortgage division. After which he became a business development manager and then a regional manager for London.

It looks increasingly likely that legislation arising from the Retail Distribution Review, which profoundly affects the way IFAs do business, will be brought to bear on the mortgage market at some point in the not-too-distant future. This would severely impact the way mortgage brokers deliver and charge for advice, as well as having serious implications in terms of qualification requirements. What exactly are the implications of RDR and how can brokers best prepare for it?

Nick Cann

Nick Cann, Chief Executive, Institute of Financial Planning

Nick Cann CFP has been Chief Executive of the Institute of Financial Planning for 10 years. He also sits as a delegate on the Financial Planning Standard Board CFP Council. He has served as Chairman of the European CFP Council and the International Marketing and Communications Committee. He has overseen significant change in the Financial Planning world and has strong views on the subject.

He sat on the FSA’s Distribution Review working group looking at Professionalism and Reputation and continues to sit on relevant panels and working groups including the Professional Standards Group. He is a previous winner of IFA Personality of the Year at the Professional Adviser awards and voted most influential person working with IFAs in 2008. He is a regular speaker at conferences and also occasional after dinner speaker
